How often do I need to bring my child to the dentist?

The American Dental Association (ADA) recommends that your child visit a dentist for the first time as soon as their first tooth has erupted, or by their first birthday then every 6 months for checkup and cleaning. For patients with braces or high risk for cavities, we might recommend coming more often.

What do I expect during the appointment?

Our trained, friendly dental staff will welcome your child to the dental chair. After making your child comfortable, we explain in a fun, engaging way what we will do next, which will include a gentle cleaning followed by polishing teeth and removing plaque, tartar, and stains as needed. Next, the dentist will do a full exam of teeth, jaws, bite, gums, and oral tissues to check the growth and development. Dental X-rays will be taken based on your child’s age and need. We finish the visit with rewards and prizes!

  Our son has been going to Highland Kids Dentistry since he was a toddler and they are fantastic! Especially with calming nerves. Both Dr. Shadi and Dr. Garcia are kind, caring, and so great with kids. They never rush and explain tooth care in a way the kids can understand.   This place is amazing. The decor of the lobby is really cute and kid friendly. Video games for the kiddos to wait for the Dr. The staff were very friendly and good with the kids. Made my little one feel welcomed and comfortable. They let the kids watch movies/shows while getting worked on. Overall this place was amazing. The nurses and Dr. were the best!

  All 4 of my kids have been going here for years. I’ve never seen kids so excited to go to the dentist! Their office and staff could not be more warm and welcoming. Through X-rays and cavities and even breaking my toddler from her pacifier addiction—they have been top notch all the way and truly make it a pleasure for children and parents alike. Thank you!!
